The city from the river first, then the places the days out go: the wine villages to the north, the Roman aqueduct to the west and the Luberon to the east. Planning an Avignon tour? These are the views you will stand in front of.

The set opens on the Rhône, where the Pont Saint-Bénézet stops short in the middle of the river. Behind it rise the towers of the Palais des Papes and the belfry of Notre-Dame des Doms, with its gilded statue on top. From the air you can see the whole walled town, the bend of the river and the green island opposite.

Then the frames leave the walls. Châteauneuf-du-Pape sits on its hill above the vines, whose roots grow through beds of large rounded stones. West of the city the Pont du Gard carries its three tiers over the Gardon. To the east, Gordes is piled up its hillside, the ochre cliffs of Roussillon glow orange, and the lavender runs in rows towards a limestone ridge in summer.
